With more than 25 years of experience, Jennifer has built her career around a simple belief: when people understand their numbers, they make better decisions, reduce stress, and create stronger, more sustainable businesses. Through NBK Services, she has helped countless business owners move beyond viewing bookkeeping as a compliance obligation and instead see it as a practical tool for clarity, confidence, and growth.
Jennifer’s entrepreneurial journey took a significant turn when she acquired NBK Services during a challenging period for the business. Taking ownership brought both responsibility and opportunity. As she worked to rebuild the practice, she began exploring new ways to better support clients and create deeper value beyond traditional bookkeeping services.
A key influence during that period was her introduction to the Strategic Bookkeeper methodology developed by Jeannie Savage. The framework fundamentally changed Jennifer’s perspective on what bookkeeping could achieve.
“Bookkeeping isn’t just about recording transactions or preparing reports,” Jennifer explains. “It’s about helping business owners understand what their numbers are telling them so they can make informed decisions with confidence.”
That philosophy became central to the evolution of NBK Services.
Throughout her career, Jennifer has observed that financial challenges are often linked less to capability and more to confidence.
Many business owners feel overwhelmed by financial information or embarrassed by what they believe they should already know. As a result, they avoid engaging with their numbers altogether, limiting their ability to make informed decisions.
One client experience particularly reinforced this lesson. The business owner was highly capable and hardworking but had become so disconnected from their financial information that even reviewing reports felt overwhelming. Jennifer recognised that before any technical solutions could be implemented, the client needed a safe environment to ask questions and learn without judgement.
As their understanding grew, so did their confidence. They became more engaged in their finances, made more informed decisions, and developed greater control over the direction of their business.
Experiences like this continue to shape Jennifer’s approach today.
“Financial knowledge is powerful,” she says. “But people need the confidence and willingness to learn before they can fully benefit from it.”
Jennifer’s work with clients is strongly influenced by the Plan, Prioritise, Progress and Power framework developed by Jeannie Savage as part of the Strategic Bookkeeper methodology.
The framework provides a structured pathway that helps business owners gain clarity, focus on the actions that will create the greatest impact, measure meaningful progress, and ultimately build confidence in their decision-making.
What attracted Jennifer to the methodology was its recognition that sustainable improvement starts with mindset as much as financial data.
“Many business owners know they need to improve their numbers,” she says. “But fear, overwhelm and uncertainty often keep them stuck. The framework provides both practical guidance and the confidence to take action.”
Today, Jennifer incorporates these principles throughout her work with clients, helping them better understand their businesses and develop stronger financial foundations for long-term success.
While client work remains at the heart of her business, Jennifer’s influence now extends beyond her own practice.
As co-host of the Better in Business podcast alongside Strategic Bookkeeper founder Jeannie Savage, Jennifer contributes to conversations that help business owners and bookkeeping professionals improve their understanding of business performance, financial leadership, and strategic bookkeeping.
She also works with fellow bookkeepers, sharing practical insights and supporting them as they implement strategic bookkeeping principles within their own practices. Through education, mentoring, and coaching, Jennifer helps other professionals move beyond transactional bookkeeping and create greater value for their clients.
This commitment to education reflects a passion that has shaped her entire career.
“The people who grow the most are usually the ones who remain open to learning,” she says. “Whether you’re a business owner or a bookkeeper, curiosity and a willingness to keep developing make an enormous difference.”
As NBK Services has grown, Jennifer has learned that leadership is not about controlling every aspect of a business but creating an environment where both people and the business can succeed.
Building a strong team, developing trust, and empowering others have become essential components of her leadership philosophy.
“I don’t see leadership as people working for me,” Jennifer explains. “I see it as supporting the business and the people who help make it successful.”
This people-first approach continues to guide the culture of NBK Services and the relationships Jennifer builds with clients, colleagues, and industry peers alike.
In 2025, NBK Services was recognised as Best Bookkeepers in the Lockyer Valley Region, the first of the awards the business has received.
For Jennifer, the recognition carried special meaning. Having owned the business for only eighteen months, she had spent much of that time navigating the challenges of business ownership while working to strengthen systems, support clients, and build a sustainable future.
The award served as validation not only of the work being done but of the resilience required to get there.
“It felt like someone had seen the effort happening behind the scenes,” she reflects. “More importantly, it reinforced that we were making a genuine difference for the people we serve.”
For women considering entrepreneurship, Jennifer encourages clarity, continuous learning, and a willingness to seek support.
She believes that building a successful business requires both professional expertise and personal growth, with each challenge providing opportunities to develop new skills and perspectives.
